Kathleen (Kathy) Ann Hopper passed away peacefully on February 22, 2021, with her children by her side, holding her hand.

Kathy was passionate about many things in life, but most of all she loved to spend time with her family. Kathy and her late husband, Richard Hopper were happily married for 42 years, and enjoyed their Cape Cod life together. They cherished holidays, vacations, birthday parties, and celebrations with her five children, 13 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. She was immensely proud that her family loved and supported each other. She will be deeply missed.

Kathy had many accomplishments during her very full life. While raising her children in upstate New York, Kathy set out to complete her nursing degree. She rose to become class Valedictorian, and served for years as a registered nurse. She specialized in Intensive and Cardiac Care, and later cared for many patients as a member of the Visiting Nurses Association on Cape Cod.

While devoted to caring for her patients, Kathy also had an intensely independent and entrepreneurial spirit. She loved decorating her country home with antique treasures she found on numerous weekend excursions. Kathy built on this passion by establishing Early Birds Estate Sales in 1990, which grew to become one of Cape Cod’s most popular and well-respected estate sale businesses.

Kathy’s children extend a heartfelt thank you to the entire Early Birds team. Her workers and every one of her customers meant so much to her.

Although Kathy passed away peacefully at age 84, she looked not a day over 50, lived vivaciously like a twenty-something, and outpaced everyone at late night family events. Happiest in St Maarten, or at shows and concerts with friends and family, she enjoyed Abba, Queen, and Elton John – live in Las Vegas! She often spoke of the Circle of Life – and her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren will carry her energy, her passion for life, forward, forever, and full circle.

Kathy was predeceased by her loving husband, Richard S. Hopper “Pops” and her parents, George and Arlene DeCelle of New York. Kathy is survived by her brother Tommy DeCelle of Troy, New York; her 5 children, Colleen James of Saratoga NY, Richard and Kathi Hopper of Alton NH, Karen and Bob DeAngelis of Marshfield MA, Kevin Vicha and Gloria Addonizio of West Hartford, CT, Cathy and John Court of Littleton MA, and her grandchildren Daniel and Megan Hopper, Kristen, Kaitlyn and Courtney DeAngelis, Michael James, Kevin, Julia and David Court, Aiden, Dillon, Alex and Riley Vicha and great grandchildren McKenna and Brooke Bertelson, as well as her nieces and nephew, and her loving partner Bill Maistrellis.

Visitation will be held on Monday, March 1st at Hallett Funeral Home in South Yarmouth, MA from 10:30 - 11:30 am. The visitation will fully respect COVID guidelines with extended family and friends invited to pay respects in a socially distanced setting. Visitors are required to wear masks.

Following the visitation, there will be a private burial service held at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.

In lieu of flowers, donations are welcomed at the American Heart Association, PO Box 417005 Boston, MA 02241-7005.

My sincere condolences to Kathy's family. For many, many years, I was a loyal customer at her estate sales. Kathy's sales were always professionally organized and she, along with her loyal staff, made attending a pleasure. So sorry for your loss.

So sad to see this - Kathy was one of my favorite customers over my 20 years in advertising at the paper. She also “got” my Springsteen fan attitude and we had a lot of laughs over the years. The Cape yard sale community will never be the same. May God bless her and her memory be a blessing - she loved you all so.With love, AmyMac

My sincere condolences to Kathy’s family. I worked with Kathy at the VNA, but retired in 2004, so had not seen her for a long time. She was a lovely, soft spoken woman and just plain nice. My thoughts and prayers go out to you all. Sincerely, Angie

My heart sank to see Kathy’s obit today as she was one of my favorite customers at the Cape Cod Times (I did her ads for a lot of years). We’d laugh a lot and she was one of those people who actually understood my Bruce Springsteen passion. She was a class act all around and Cape Cod yard sale fans including myself will truly miss her. May God bless her and keep her at peace and her memory be a blessing - I know she loved you all so.
